The first weekend of October witnessed a fest that many would have erroneously claimed to be organised for the first time though the scale was incontrovertibly magnified. The 'Piece de Resistance' of Student Alumni Relations Cell, Alumination is IIT Bombay's largest platform for bilateral exchange between the IITB Alumni and Students on a spectrum spanning Career Guidance, Corporate Exposure, Life Learning and Motivational Talks.

The fest was preluded with ‘Tech v/s Stack’, a Panel Discussion directed toward opportunities available in Core & Non-Core sectors on 5th October. The panelists were Parag Bhargava, a professor-cum-alum at MEMS Department; Alumna Ms. Ahana Gautam, the Brand Manager at General Mills India; Mr. Nikunj Malpani, Associate Consultant at Bain & Co; and Ms. Aditi Sharma, the Overall Coordinator of Student Mentorship Program.

Alumination commenced in its optimal glory on 6th October with multiple major events like Mock Interviews and Group Discussions, along with Speed Mentoring; both these events continued for the entirety of the two days. SARC understands that facing an interview panel for the first time while being encumbered with expectations can be an unnerving experience but only for the uninitiated. With the alumni roleplaying as interviewers, students get an idea of the actual recruitment process letting them sail smoothly through their actual placements. Speed Mentoring sessions provide a chance to have a personal confidential interaction with professional life coaches where one can discuss over any topic shining under the sun's light or scorching under the night's darkness. ‘ResTech’, an exposition on students’ research and technical projects, was also set for the first day. Alumni Student Mentorship Program, an important arm of SARC, aimed to bridge the students and alumni for betterment of both, witnessed its second 'Break the Ice’ session where the Alumni mentors met with their student mentees over a resplendent lunch.

For the first time, SARC fortified Alumination with three advanced certified workshops on Finance, Consulting and Entrepreneurship conducted by IIT-B Alumni. While Quantitative and Algorithmic Trading, and Value Propositions were dealt in Finance and Entrepreneurship workshops respectively, the one on Consulting aimed to enlighten students over a wide spectrum.

Not failing to outperform itself, Alumination introduced Entrepreneurial Epics, a series of talks celebrating the IIT-B Entrepreneurs by highlighting their enviable success and inspirational will power in overcoming the obstacles was introduced. The first Alumnus in the series was Mr. Prabhkiran Singh, the Co-founder and Director of Bewakoof.com

It requires sheer audacity to break through norms and pursue one’s true calling, let alone succeed in building a notable career out if it. 'Beyond the Horizon’ is an event that showcases Alumni who have carved for themselves a niche outside the engineering realm with Mr. Rajnesh Domalpalli, a filmmaker with his debut film ‘Vanaja’ lauded with 33 international awards, gracing the fest this time on 7th October.

The flagship event of SARC, Alumination, wasn't one of grandstanding, happening at an ostentatious level. It was meant to guide minds toward their desired destinations, to quench the thirsty hearts with knowledge of self and life; it was meant to illuminate for the naive bodies their truest selves, to motivate the lost souls with a power to strive. And Alumination incontrovertibly succeeded in fulfilling that vision.
