The times have changed and so has the world. It is not news anymore for one to hear that some man has bitten a dog. Apparently, there seems also to be a new trend in the market: to wash your dirty linen in public. Literally. That is exactly the calling card line for the brand-new start-up of India that has claimed the name ‘UClean’. UClean is India's first organized chain of laundry and home cleaning stores, and it is primarily focused on fostering the DIY (Do It Yourself) culture among the key demographic population of today. Yet, understanding that sometimes it is not feasible to do so due to various reasons, with technology at the heart of the brand, UClean also enables the time crunched busy customers to avail the reliable and efficient pick-n-drop service from the comforts of their home or the office. UClean is basically a self-service and online laundry service platform and the Frankenstein of this cleaning monster chain is Mr Arunabh Sinha, the founder and CEO of UClean. Arunabh had seen the huge success of Laundromats in the United States and the European continent and also in South East Asian countries. During his time as head of internal business for Franchise India, Arunabh Sinha used to travel extensively to Malaysia and Indonesia. "The culture in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta was quite similar to that in India. They had large families that depended on house helps. Yet, there was an explosion of self-service laundromats in those cities." Sinha says he noticed there were more than 3,000 laundromats in each city. This observation sparked the coaly embers in the IITian’s mind engine and Mr Arunabh Sinha decided to take up the cudgels for this innovative concept in the sub-continent and bring about the ‘Laundry Revolution’ in India.

Being a graduate of Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, Arunabh Sinha brings forth a good amount of experience in the Franchising and Start-up space. This super exciting, dreamy idea of his was born in September 2016. But unlike many ideas that find no purchase on-ground, this did. I, of course, took hard work, dedication, and much more to take it to start-up level within a tenacious month.  Sinha started a self-service laundromat in Gurugram with a 'bring your own detergent' concept. Once he was convinced that people were willing to pay, he started a subscription-based model. The determination did not go unnoticed as soon then, none other than Franchise India joined hands with Arunabh Sinha to fulfil the goal of making UClean the largest globally franchised laundry chain. As the brave heart UClean kept on climbing the ladder of success, it received a solid push when Alliance Laundry Systems, USA decided to back the venture and became exclusive equipment and technology partner of UClean in November, 2016. Before the bells of Christmas were ringing, the start up already received its present in the form of 2 new franchises inking the franchise agreement and coming on board the project. The New Year of 2017 began with different resolutions, hopes and dreams for people the world across. For UClean, it began with the celebrity couple Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Khemu jumping on the bandwagon as strategic partners in January. And ever since then, the project’s growing steadily. UClean has started online pick-up and delivery service soon after and now this accounts for 96% of business. It has 6 stores in Delhi-NCR and plans to expand to other cities this year. Arunabh Sinha has received seed funding of $1 million from a Mumbai-based angel investor and Franchise India.

Prior to nursing this baby, Mr. Sinha was heading the entire North India operations for Treebo Hotels, which is the fastest growing start-up in the budget hotel space in the country. In the last 4 years, he has been prominently instrumental in the entry of several international brands in India through the franchising route, including American burger chains of Carl’s Jr. and Fatburger. The French luxury brand Longchamp, and kids’ related brands like Poney, Bricks 4 Kidz and Jymka are some of the fortunate brands to be graced by the Midas touch of Arunabh Sinha.

UClean is committed to work with other entrepreneurs and investors and co-build the UClean brand with them through the franchise route. Opening up a franchise in this biz has a low setup cost and is recession free. UClean is not only endorsed by celebrities but is also enabled by technology. With all of these features plus the live cleaning laundromats, UClean believes it can attract the right number of entrepreneurs. These entrepreneurs are trained, equipped and handheld in building and operating their own UClean franchise store. With some of the most credible partners on-board for a venture of this nature, UClean is striving to not just be a brand but an overall segment creator.
